 Online Guitar Lessons

Just thought I’d share this. I’ve been practicing my guitar for the past weekend or two now (and am I so rusty!). I’ve been following these online beginner guitar lessons by Dan Cross at About.com. It’s pretty good. It’s helping me unlearn bad habits and learning lots of new stuff.
Practice Scales:
Chromatic Scale
E Phrygian Scale
Blues Scale

 Transformers

Transformers is the movie version of the Transformers animated TV series. Like the TV series, it is about the battle between two opposing groups of ‘bots: The goodie goodie Autobots and the evil Decepticons. I’ve never been a fan of the TV series. So I’m sure I wasn’t able to completely appreciate this movie [...]

I Get Knocked Down (But I Get Up Again)

Don’t know if it was the daing na bangus I ate for lunch or the shrimps I ate yesterday or if it was food poisoning or an allergy. Whatever it was, it really downed me. Less than an hour after lunch, my pulse started racing, then the throbbing headache, then the fever, and finally red [...]

 Guitar vs Violin

I was playing the guitar, between watching Heroes episodes, this weekend and I was thinking whether I should continue practicing the guitar or learn the violin.
Guitar Pros: I already know some of the basics; The guitar as well as lessons are relatively inexpensive; You can get by even with basic skills; You can sing along [...]

 Heroes

I’ve been marathon watching Heroes. It was much more interesting than I expected. It’s basically about otherwise normal people manifesting powers. It’s a recurring theme used in stories like X-Men. But this one focuses on the ordinary lives of the characters as they interleave with the main plot line. One thing I really liked: The [...]

 Stair-climbing Record

I’ve been taking the stairs at the office intermittently since Aby brought to my attention this practical and inexpensive way to keep fit. I’ve been pushing myself harder partly to beat my own best time and partly to at least reach my officemate’s own best time which was way better than mine. Yesterday, I had [...]

Pan’s Labyrinth (El Laberinto del Fauno)

I don’t know why I held off watching Pan’s Labyrinth for so long because now that I’ve seen it, I totally regret my procrastination. From the title you would guess that it is a fantasy or fairy tale. Like most fairy tales, it is enchanting. But this is no children’s fairy tale. It is about [...]

 Invictus

by William Ernest Henley
Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the Pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.
In the fell clutch of Circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of Chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.
Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of [...]

 La Vie En Rose

by Mack David, French original by Edith Pliaf
Hold me close and hold me fast,
This magic spell you cast,
This is La Vie En Rose.
When you kiss me, Heaven sighs,
And though I close my eyes,
I see La Vie En Rose.
When you press me to your heart,
I’m in a world apart,
A world where roses bloom;
And [...]
