Appaloosa

Appaloosa is a western along the lines of those maverick hero-for-hire adventures pioneered by Akira Kurosawa (in his case it would be katana-for-hire) and westernized, in both senses of the word, by quite a few filmmakers. The movie follows the story of Virgil Cole (Ed Harris), a traveling lawman-for-hire (nothing new, yeah?) and his sidekick Everett Hitch (Viggo Mortensen) as they ventured into a troubled town, gets hired by the terrified populace, and tracked down the terrorist villain. But not without some twists and turns, of course.

Still, the storyline is not one to follow the roads less traveled but hey, that’s what timeless tales are made of. Remember those? The ones you want to hear over and over from your grandparents at bedtime? The movie is long, almost (but not quite) epic in feel. And that’s already the version horribly butchered by the MTRC and/or the cinemas. And yet, it was able to keep my attention with the right combination of humor, [cheesy] romance, and action, and storytelling.

Word is that there’s already a sequel in the coming. If it’s anything like this one, then they can count on me to be one of the first to watch it (especially if someone gives me a premier ticket).

Body of Lies

The Middle East or at least things that involve Middle Eastern terrorists is very much in vogue these days. Body of Lies is just one among that long list of movies (Syriana, The Kingdom, Rendition, and the recent Eagle Eye among others) and luckily, it’s among those on the top.

Roger Ferris (Leonardo Di Caprio of that yeech-boat-movie fame) is a CIA field agent who reports to Ed Hoffman (Russell Crowe), a Machiavellian spy master (is there any other kind?). They are tracking a notorious Middle Eastern terrorist of the Osama Bin Laden shade. Di Caprio is eager, talented, and resourceful but his best laid plans are often messed up by Crowe to dire consequences. And this is the focus of the movie, the human cost of the shadow war on terror.

Booooored

I usually get bored when I don’t have work to do in the office. Yeah I could visit Friendster, check my email, chat over YM, listen to MP3s and watch YouTube and I could still get bored.

I tried viewing blogrolls and listening to the radio through my phone but still I’m dead to the world.

And then I wondered, what do bored people do?

If I’m at home and I’m bored, I’d sleep or sew my bedsheet, blanket and pillow cases set. I’d do a marathon of Heroes, Gossip Girl, or Prison Break on TV. I’d even cook if I want to.

But I’m at work… :(

No marathons, no cooking, no sewing, no sleeping (though sometimes I “accidentally get an eyeshut”).

Ok, got a new task to do, until next time!

To Email Or Not To Email

To email or not to email? That is the question :P

I’ve been receiving email from friends in the industry, HR recruiting personnel, consulting firms and the like… from local employment to international deployment (Singapore and UK mainly).

For the past few days or weeks, I’ve been meaning to transfer to a different company. The thing is I just joined this company last June and a four-month stint in your curriculum vitae is not advantageous for any applicant… but I’m soooo bored in my current position. I need something that will make me do my stuff… and part of it is dealing with people. I was able to do Business Analysis in my previous work and I enjoyed doing it.

Unfortunately, in my current work, there were no BA openings when they hired me. So instead of bumming around, I accepted a position I held in my first and second companies. Now that I’m in QA again, I sort of miss the challenge of talking to SMEs, interviewing and attending meetings with Managers for their requirements, and the presenting the proposed project to the CEO which was literally a pain in the neck… the presentation that is. :P

I’m not yet final in this moving to another company thingy, but I would like to know my value, again. :P

A certain headhunter whose client is at The Fort is rushing me to send the package I want and says that it’s a BA position and I might as well give it a try since it’s what I really want. To think that she’s the one who placed me with my current company, I just thought it’s not nice of her to do that and I hope she’ll get caught by our HR. :P

So now, I’ve sent my CV to those who asked but I haven’t gone to a single interview or exam, yet.

Hello World!!!

While I’m here, I’ll let you have a sneak peek of him and/or of us… as you may have noticed, most of his posts are mostly techie stuff… nothing personal and almost none showing his feelings. You wanna see that, yeah? Let’s just hope he won’t edit or delete my posts :P

Peace Jay!

As of me, my life’s an open book, you’ll be able to know me through the posts and the comments I’m making.

Knowing me and Jay, making buking of the wonderful, funny and silly things we do… I guess that’s fun! :P

So, I’ll see you here more often? :D
